JOHN BERNARD DAHL of Billings, MT died November 21, 2018 at the age of 93. A licensed funeral director, he formed Billings Funeral Service in 1955 alongside Howard Retz and William Brown. In 1966, he became sole owner of the firm, changing the name to Dahl Funeral Chapel. In 1977, he established a new location in Red Lodge and merged the Bozeman, Billings and Red Lodge operation into one. In 1978, the new chapel was built in Bozeman to include the only crematory for at least one hundred miles. In 1998 Dahl Funeral Chapels, LLC was formed and he turned the reins to his son, John Emil Dahl and daughter Irene. A graduate of the Worsham College of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the International Order of the Golden Rule, National Funeral Directors Association and served as past president of the Montana Funeral Directors Association.
