GEORGE R. "DICK" DEVORE JR of Sunbury, OH died May 5, 2019 at the age of 89. A second generation funeral director and embalmer for 62 years, he joined his parents at the DeVore Funeral Home in Galena. In 1960 he opened a second location in Sunbury and expanded again in 1967 with the opening of the Marengo Chapel. In 1978 Dick and his wife Phyllis built a new funeral home chapel in Sunbury. In 1985, he purchased the former Pletcher Funeral Home in Delaware, which he operated along with his wife, son Garee; a third generation funeral director, and daughter Beth, until partnering with the Snyder family of funeral homes in 1993. A 1956 graduate of the Cincinnati College or Mortuary Science, he was a member of the The Order of the Golden Rule, National Funeral Directors Association, Ohio Funeral Director Association and the Central Ohio Funeral Directors Association.
