About 10 years ago, I went down to the funeral home and thanked Bill for being a good role model to me as a kid. I just wanted him to know how important he was to me in my life, and I'm glad I did. At least I got to say those words. He looked at me like I was nuts. It's cause I am...lol. But I just told him how much he was loved and appreciated by us town kids, and me. He thanked me , I hugged him and left. So there. I loved him and all of you so much for taking in this little strange girl from over the hill and behind the house. Thank you again, Love Janine.

Bill Sr. helped to define the Community of Belleville. He touched generations of children and adults. He brought a caring and comforting ease during our most difficult times. He had an infectious smile and a sense of humor that could warm the hearts of children and help heal the broken hearts of those who felt deep loss. He was one in a million, an inspiration to all.

To Jane and family, it saddens me to learn of Bill's passing as I look over a golf course at Myrtle Beach. I know how much he liked spending his winters here and playing golf with his friends from the north country. He was a true gentleman with a smile that wouldn't quit. Jane I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved husband Bill. He will be missed by every person who ever met him. We were good friends in high school and when I returned for a brief visit it was as though the only thing that had passed was time, our friendship lasted and it was as though we were in constant touch. I will be praying for you and your family.

Bill was such a kind soul. Always with a smile, took time to talk with you. He and all the Stoodley's are such good family friends. If you talked with him just a few minutes you walked away with him as your friend. He is such a loss for his family, his community, Jefferson County and surrounding counties and to all the families he has served and to the funeral profession as well. I wish I could be there to honor and celebrate his life but I can't because of distance and schedule. May God hold you all in the palm of his hand.

For as long as I can remember, Bill called me "KID". I asked him a long time ago if he was going to call me that forever, and he just smiled with a chuckle. A few years ago, I was involved in several funeral details for emergency service professionals that took a ton of time and planning. Afterwards, Bill said to me: "BETH, you did a great job." It was a brief second before I realized that he hadn't called me KID. Knowing what he'd said, and that I was aware, as well, he just turned with a wink and said to me over his shoulder: "You finally earned that....." And he never called me KID again.

Bill Stoodley, thank you for your compassion, your respect, and your devotion to family, friends, and perfect strangers. Yours has been a life well lived. Rise up on wings of Eagles, my Friend.

Bill and I were the two youngest member of our class of 1955 at Belleville. We kind of went our separate ways after graduation, but always saw him at the graduates' banquet when I attended. His presence will be missed every June at the banquet. He followed in his father's and grandfathers' footsteps and was certainly suited to be an undertaker, well liked by all and always there when needed. Our condolences to Jane and family. You are in our prayers.

To the Family:

I have known all of you all my life, and though we all know life has to end, we never are prepared for it, no matter the circumstances.

Bill was a person that everyone should have gotten to know. He loved life, his family, his friends and neighbors, and his community and he would do anything he could for anyone, at anytime. I do not believe there are many who will read this whose path he has not crossed ....

If you are reading this, no matter as a family member or friend, stop what you are doing for 30 seconds and pray ... pray for this family, and pray for your family, and God will do the rest.

Bill was probably the best liked and most respected member of our small community. His kindness was an example to all who knew him. His ability to help people in their greatest time of need was a special gift. He and his family helped us so much when our granddaughter died. Being a funeral home director and a school bus driver have to be two of the toughest jobs anyone could have. Yet he did both with a smile and a sense of humor. Our thoughts go out to his family in their time of sorrow, but just know Bill will be long remembered by all as a very special man, a true one of a kind. Lynn & Sandy Hunneyman

I always loved his wonderful smile and the gentleness about him. He truly cared about people. He passed this on to his children because they are the same. He has earned a wonderful place in heaven. His memory is a blessed one may it always bring his loved ones peace.

Bill was a good friend and neighbor who was always willing to lend a hand. I will cherish the times each of us sat on our lawn mowers and talked about our life experiences. We always had a few laughs. I will miss him, but even though those days are over, I will smile as I remember the time we shared together. What he leaves behind are the memories he has woven into my life and the lives of others!
